About Rob...

Overview

Accomplished technologist, struggling soccer player, champion sandcastle builder, seasoned educator, and resident nice guy.

Today, Rob's focus is on helping teachers, schools and organizations thrive through the use of creativity and technology. Whether managing a technology project, developing a killer web app, or making sense of information systems, Rob melds his 20 years experience in Information Science with a unique ability to break complex ideas down to plain English - all the while having fun.

"I welcome opportunities to partner with with individuals and organizations that embrace the attributes of a life-longer, open to new ideas, welcome the challenge of exploring alternate avenues, and see creativity as the spice in life."

In other words, I have trouble focusing...

The idea for Hallpass and Friends was born from my three core values.

  1. Creativity I quickly learned that I crave creativity. I remember meeting Sam Maloof for the first time. His home, garden and shop oozed creativity. With my lust for creativity, I drank up Sir. Ken Robinson's TED Talk on the role schools play in killing creativity.
  2. Collaboration It's hard to do it alone! I love working with teachers, exploring ways to engage students in "group work" where the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts. Technology has given a new meaning to collaboration and has open the door to some really wonderful learning use cases. Check out Jane Krauss' Blog.
  3. Story I have always been a sucker for a good story. Turns out I am not alone! Story was the standard tool for teaching well before the concept of "school" ever existed. Organizational Behaviorists, Chip and Dan Heath, understand the power of stories. Have you read Made to Stick?
